The Abuja Network of NGOs (ANNGO) welcomes individuals who are interested in contributing their time, skills, knowledge and experience to support networking, capacity development, collaboration and civil society engagement in Abuja.

Volunteering with ANNGO provides an opportunity to contribute to activities that support NGOs, civil society organisations and communities while gaining practical experience, building professional connections and contributing to meaningful initiatives.

VOLUNTEERING WITH ANNGO IS UNPAID

ANNGO volunteer opportunities are unpaid and are offered on a voluntary basis.

Volunteers should not expect salaries, wages or regular financial compensation for their volunteer contribution.

Volunteering is separate from ANNGO organisational membership. You do not pay the ₦50,000 annual membership fee simply to volunteer. The ₦50,000 annual fee applies to organisations applying for ANNGO membership.

Any specific expenses, reimbursements or support associated with a particular volunteer activity will be communicated separately where applicable. Volunteers should not assume that expenses will be covered unless this has been expressly agreed in advance.

TYPES OF VOLUNTEERING

ANNGO may engage volunteers in different ways depending on the activity.

Short-Term Volunteering

Support for a specific event, training, meeting, campaign or activity.

Project-Based Volunteering

Contribution to a particular project or initiative for an agreed period.

Skills-Based Volunteering

Professionals contribute specialised knowledge or technical expertise.

Event Volunteering

Volunteers support the preparation and delivery of ANNGO events and activities.

Remote Volunteering

Where appropriate, some tasks may be completed remotely, particularly research, communications, digital and documentation activities.

Ongoing Volunteer Support

Where there is an appropriate need, volunteers may contribute periodically over a longer period.

The availability of each type of opportunity depends on ANNGO’s current activities and needs.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM OUR VOLUNTEERS

ANNGO expects volunteers to:

    • Be reliable and responsible

    • Respect other volunteers, organisations and participants

    • Communicate professionally

    • Respect confidentiality where applicable

    • Complete agreed tasks within agreed timelines

    • Follow reasonable instructions relating to assigned activities

    • Respect ANNGO’s values and working environment

    • Avoid misrepresenting themselves as employees or official representatives of ANNGO unless expressly authorised

    • Declare any relevant conflict of interest

    • Maintain appropriate professional conduct

Volunteers are expected to contribute within the scope of the role agreed with ANNGO.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTEERS

Volunteering Does Not Mean Employment

Volunteering with ANNGO does not create an employment relationship. Volunteers are not ANNGO employees by virtue of volunteering.

Volunteering Does Not Create Membership

Volunteering does not automatically make an individual or organisation an ANNGO member.

Organisations that wish to become ANNGO members should use the Become an ANNGO Member process.

Volunteer Opportunities Are Not Guaranteed

Submitting a volunteer interest form does not guarantee that you will be assigned a volunteer role.

Volunteer opportunities depend on ANNGO’s programmes, activities, available roles and current needs.

Volunteering Is Unpaid

Volunteers should not expect salaries or wages for their contribution.

Where a specific activity includes approved support or reimbursement, this will be communicated clearly before the activity.

ANNGO may review your information and keep your details for consideration when relevant opportunities arise.

Where your skills and interests match a volunteer opportunity, ANNGO may contact you with further information.

Step 4 — Agree on the Role

Before participating in a specific activity, ANNGO will communicate the nature of the role, expected contribution and relevant arrangements.

Step 5 — Contribute

You participate in the agreed activity on a voluntary and unpaid basis.
