 Establishing Partnerships with Key Stakeholders

Establishing meaningful partnerships with local education institutions and networks can be a great way to increase the reach and engagement of teachers in the program.

In this section, you will learn how to use a stakeholder analysis tool and identify opportunities to establish a new partnership for your program.

Knowing who your stakeholders are and meeting them where they are will be key for all the stages of your program – from deciding on the best online spaces where to advertise this opportunity to connecting with education authorities

What is a stakeholder?

A stakeholder can be any individual, group, or institution that:

  • Has an interest, involvement, or commitment in your program
  • Has the power or influence to affect your program in a negative or positive way
  • Is affected by your program in a negative or positive way

Knowing who are the stakeholders in your project can help you:

  • Design a clear and targeted plan
  • Identify effective channels and strategies of communication and engagement with the teachers you want to reach
  • Expand your network of influence and identify potential challenges in your program implementation
  • Use your time and resources wisely and effectively

Here are some questions that can help you identify who your stakeholders are:

  • Who has power and influence in my local education context?
  • Think about people, institutions, committees, organized groups, etc.
  • Who are the people affected by the problem my program is going to solve?
  • If my program achieves its goal, who will be affected?

You can take a look at the education institutions and actors that are already part of your network of influence from your work in past projects. For example, review this graphic which represents how different actors in the free knowledge ecosystem are connected to the Wikimedia Movement.
